Soundproofing for Your Home and Windows

Create a Quiet and Private Environment in Your Home

Soundproofing for Your Home and Windows

Soundproofing may sound simple but is actually a surprisingly intricate and expensive topic. Are you ever frustrated by a loud upstairs neighbor coming home at 4am? Do your next-door neighbors have young children that like to play noisily outside? If you are struggling to find creative and effective solutions to soundproof your home, look no further.

Soundproofing and acoustic treatments will not only raise the value of your home but will also improve the quality of your life. Furthermore, acrylic window inserts can be the perfect complement to other soundproofing techniques to block out sounds from the outside world.

In order to set up any room for a perfect auditory ambiance, you need the proper installation and personalized features. In this blog, we’ll walk you through some sound-enhancing features and how you can maximize your Hudson County, NJ home to continually create a better auditory environment.

Soundproofing

For decades, single and multi-family homes have dealt with noise pollution with no solutions. The good news is today homeowners have options. Even so, you may face some very unique challenges in controlling noise in your homes. Initial construction plans may not consider soundproofing the walls, ceilings and windows but, there are new options for you to create the perfect quiet and private environment for you and your family.

Soundproofing your home ensures that any loud sounds from your media or outside sources doesn’t spill over through the walls and into adjacent rooms, which can be annoying and distracting. If the kids are blasting the latest Spiderman video game in your home theater, it’s going to be almost impossible to get any work done in your home office.

If this sounds like a situation you are dealing with, the best and only option is “decoupling.”  In this process, we go down to the studs and add insulation between the drywall. This is absolutely necessary, so the sound doesn’t get trapped. From there, we add RSIC clips on the studs and hang resilient channel rails in which the drywall is secured. For more difficult situations, we then use a decoupling compound called “green glue” and a second layer of drywall. For the most severe situations, while very expensive, engineered drywall provides a great solution.  Finally, instead of using a corner bead like in regular construction, we use an acoustic sealant around the perimeter to stop the noise in its tracks. This keeps the noise from spreading to adjacent walls or ceiling construction. Overall, this will give you more sound control for all of the rooms in your home.

If you can’t stand another day listening to the dog bark next door or the garbage men in the morning, then acrylic sound inserts are the solution.  Glass conducts sound at a very high rate of speed but, acrylic will flex and absorb quite a bit of that energy once again reducing the noise in your home and further enhancing your quality of life.

Acoustic Treatments

While soundproofing requires adding and possibly deconstructing your already existing walls, acoustic panels absorb mid- and high-frequency sound waves with relative ease. In your home theater or even a center hallway with high ceilings, acoustic treatments will keep sound from reverberating around the room causing a dull, dead sound.

To elevate the room’s acoustics and rid your home of irritating echoes, you can install absorption and diffusion panels to add soundproofing that not only keeps the sound within the walls – they optimize the sound completely.

These panels enhance the acoustics and lower unwanted noise, so you can play your movies at a lower volume as well. Not only that, but they come in stylish varieties that don’t interfere with your room’s design.

With both soundproofing and acoustic treatments, calling in an expert to take a look at your unique situation is always a good choice. We are standing by to personally look at your home and determine the best course of action for you.
